Botox (botulinum toxin A)
Botox prevents the muscle contractions that lead to lines and wrinkles in the skin. It is used to soften and remove wrinkle lines in areas such as the outer sides of the eyes (crow’s feet), frown lines and forehead lines. Botox is also used to correct gummy smiles and wrinkle lines in the nose during smiling (bunny lines). It can also be used to slim and shape the jawline by treating the enlarged jaw (masseter) muscles. Results from Botox are generally visible after 3 days from administration and have maximum effect at 2 weeks. The amount of Botox required depends on the size and strength of your facial muscles.
Sculptra is a special type of hyaluronic acid filler that helps stimulate your skin’s own collagen production, working subtly and gradually over time to restore facial volume and create a natural youthful-looking appearance. Sculptra begins to work within a few weeks and continues over many months. Most patients need a minimum of 3 treatment sessions spaced a month apart. Results can last up to 2 years after the first treatment session. Future touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.
Injectable fillers or cosmetic fillers are used to restore volume loss in the skin that occurs with aging. Fillers can be placed at different areas of the face and at different skin depths to improve volume loss, effectively softening lines and wrinkles. This can help provide an overall more youthful appearance. Common treatment areas include the cheeks, temples, mouth region, chin and lips. Filler types include Juvéderm, Restylane, and Belotero:
Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid filler used to add volume to the skin to effectively smooth wrinkles, lift cheeks, or plump the lips. Results are typically seen immediately. Depending on the location of filler placement and type of Juvéderm used, results may last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.
Restylane is another family of hyaluronic acid filler that can be placed in different areas of the face to improve volume loss, soften lines and enhance lips. Results can be seen immediately and can last from 6 months to 1 year depending on the type of Restylane product used and where it is injected.
Belotero is an injectable hyaluronic acid filler used to smooth lines, fill in wrinkles, and augment lips. It can last for approximately 6 months.
Chemical peels are used to gently exfoliate or strip away the dead outer layer of the skin. It allows new, smoother fresh skin to emerge, improving the skin’s tone and texture as well as imparting luminosity. There are varying ingredients that make up a good chemical peel. The peels may be superficial depth with little downtime or medium depth peels with 2-7 days of downtime. The strength and type of chemical peel recommended will depend on your skin type, skin color and cosmetic concerns to be addressed.
Skinpen is a medical-grade microneedling device that creates microscopic channels in the skin, stimulating the skin’s natural healing abilities and collagen production. This medical-grade device is able to penetrate deeper into the skin compared to other microneedling devices readily available over the counter. This non-invasive treatment is effective for smoothing acne scars, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, minimizing large pores and improving stretch marks. It has little downtime and is often performed in a series of monthly treatments.
Sclerotherapy is a cosmetic treatment for spider veins. This procedure involves injecting a solution into the vein that damages it and causes it to fade gradually over time. Results may take 3-6 weeks and may require at least 2 treatments.
